After a very long and stressful three years I finally graduated from Birmingham City University last Monday with a 2:1. I wrote more about my time at university here but if you don’t know I studied Fashion Retail Management. My course was a big combination of loads of different modules including buying, trend forecasting, styling, events management and my favourite; marketing. I would totally recommend my course if you want to study a range of subjects related to the creative industries but be prepared for a lot of self directed learning and not many lectures.
University wasn’t something I massively enjoyed but thanks to my lovely family and wonderful friends I survived. Big thanks to my boyfriend too for being a massive help when it came to my final year and creating a certain business plan – you’re the best. Sorry for getting all Oscar’s speech there.
Ironic that even though I studied fashion we were still made to wear those Harry Potter style robes and that ever so attractive hat – now I know why people throw them in the air. They.Are.Hideous. Alongside graduating with my friends, I also graduated with a Mr Gok Wan who received an honorary doctorate from my university, pretty cool huh. He gave a little speech during the ceremony and came across so grateful and seemed a pretty lovely fella all round. It certainly livened up the whole experience, watching a tonne of people walk on stage for almost two hours is NOT fun.
I wanted this Topshop dress for ages and knew it had to be my graduation dress, however thanks to Queen B wearing it it was nowhere to be seen – SOB. Alas, after giving up the search and finding an alternative dress, one wondrous Wednesday afternoon it reappeared online where I quickly ordered it and had my dream dress. I paired it with some pretty sturdy shoes from New Look, a block heel seemed most appropriate – falling over on stage wouldn’t have been a good look.
I’m so happy that university is finally over and today I start my new job, big smiles all round from me.
