I managed to switch off from social media for a whole weekend back in June when my boyfriend and I headed up to the Lake District for a long weekend away in the countryside. Whilst the lack of signal did help me on my social media break, it felt so nice to switch off and refrain from refreshing Twitter and Instagram on an hourly basis.
Whilst old habits die hard I do consciously try and have some time away from my phone every now and then even if it’s just for an hour in the evening. I’ve put together some of my favourite things to do away from my phone and social media to inspire you to give up the regular social updates and indulge in a little you time – good luck!
Take a Walk
If there’s one thing I love about autumn it’s the crisp sunny days filled with beautiful leave filled walks and nothing says unwind like putting on your wellies and going for a brisk autumnal walk. Take the dog, go exploring and enjoy the countryside.
Grab a Coffee
…or a hot chocolate. With the news that the Starbucks Red Cups are back, Christmas drinks season is officially upon us! I love trying our the seasonal menus in coffee shops and tasting the festive treats on offer.
Paint your Nails
Yep, nothing quite beats a girly pamper session so line up your favourite nail polishes, pick a shade and get pampering. Extra points for doing a full manicure. If you’re stuck for inspiration then take a look at my favourite nail shades for autumn.
Have a Bath
Having a relaxing bath is the perfect way to unwind and de-stress. Pick up your favourite bubble bath, my pick is always a bath bombs from Lush and relax in tub of bubbles and soak away your troubles.
Read a Book
When taking a break from social media it’s nice to sit back and indulge in a little fantasy. Nothing gets the brain as active as a reading session and it’s the best form of escapism to get carried away with a whole new world of characters. Whether you pick a chick lit or crime novel to take you to another place, you’ll soon start to feel more relaxed. If books aren’t your thing then get to work on that stack of magazines beside your bed.
Catch up on Blogs
Not strictly one that’s a break from the internet world but catching up on your favourite blogs is another one of my favourite ways to unwind. I love stumbling across a blog I’ve never seen before and then having the whole back catalogue to read up on. I love using Bloglovin’ to catch up as its so easy to read posts and catch up on all that I’ve missed.
If you have any other ways you like to unwind I’d love to hear them.
